About Us
The people behind Hiking Loreto
Loreto has long been known as an aquatic playground for kayakers, scuba divers and fishermen. With the majestic Sierra Giganta mountain range, hundreds of canyons and arroyos, and miles of beautiful shoreline, Loreto is now becoming a paradise for avid hikers and adventurers as well.
Dave and DeeDee Kelly
Dave and DeeDee have hiked, climbed and ridden all over the US, Europe, Africa and, of course, Baja. They love exploring new and remote areas, whether by foot, rope, mountain bike or motorcycle. Dave was a professional mountain guide for over 30 years, teaching rock and ice climbing and mountaineering for the International Mountain Climbing School and Eastern Mountain Sports. DeeDee managed a large hotel in the ski town of North Conway, N.H., and is now enjoying retirement.
Ed Nugent
Ed is a hopeless wanderer and confirmed desert rat. The environs of the Colorado Rockies and Eastern Utah desert were his range before landing in Baja. He has climbed all 54 of the Colorado Fourteeners, rafted the Colorado River, mountain biked and explored the canyons of the Colorado Plateau and Eastern Utah. Ed is also a published author with several novels to his credit.
Trudi Angell
Trudi is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Baja course in 1976, and subsequently worked for the school and kayaked the coast for the next 7 years. Trudi started the sea kayaking company Paddling South. Settling in Loreto, she discovered other natural treasures of the region while traveling by mule. Trudi has developed an intimate knowledge of the people, area and history of Baja, and is the founder and owner of Saddling South, offering guided mule trips into the Sierra Giganta.
